The quality of education is the priority in Rwanda education reform where a teacher should give value to Quality, professionalism and accountability to his daily duties.
Article 46, in the special Official Gazette of 14 November 2024, shows clear predictions regarding dismissal and removal from educational positions from different institutions. The underlined clause specifically for in-service educators and their must to sit for Proficiency of English.
This target shows the government’s concern to keep high instructional standards in a system whre English used as pivot of medium of instruction.
Basing on 46 article, every teacher who has accomplished probation period must sit for English Examination every three years as medium of instruction.
This should result to a dismissal of a teacher if they fail two consecutive times.
This is to ensure that the in-serve teacher remain current and effective in use of English as medium of instruction.
Rwanda introduced English as medium of instruction since 2008 in Rwandan Education system.
To master this language became crucial criteria for a teacher because this should result to effective lesson delivering, academic communication, curriculum interpretation and students assessment.
To have competence in this language results classroom quality and learners outcomes.
Repeated failure can consequently cause Headteachers and Deputy headteachers to get removed from their offices.
